Blackout Game / Game 163 Replay Recap

Simple recap of a simple stream. Recap of the Blackout Game replay.
  • Black towels for a black shirt theme is one of the more White Sox thought processes we’ve had
  • Somehow we sent John Danks to the bump in a must win game but Chris Sale never had a playoff start with us
  • Case in point, a walk on an 0-2 count for the leadoff batter of the game
  • Completely forgot Orlando Cabrera had any White Sox tenure
  •  Double play on a lineout and a Mauer strikeout in the top of the first- no reason for us to ever be optimistic but that is some damn good fortune right away. Also Uribe at 3rd caught me completely off guard, even with Orlando Cabrera fresh on my mind
  • Of course the guy bats lead off and gets a hit.
  • We remember Ozzieball but not the exact right players being needed to actually execute Ozzieball. Case in point, Dewayne Wise not getting a bunt down then grounding into a double play.
  •  Even knowing that the Twins get shut out I still thought Morneau was going to hit a home run as soon as he stepped into the box.
  •  I know there’s lost revenue to be had this year, White Sox, but did we really delay a stream of a replay game to get an old Menards radio commercial in?
  •  Two teams at 88-74 tied for the division lead and somehow this was the only playoff year after 2005 for us
  •  “Twins swept the Sox last week in Minneapolis” are you KIDDING me?!
  •  So much about this season escapes me for whatever reason- this was after my freshman year of high school with not much happening at all besides, I dunno, drivers ed hours and umpiring little league?- but Ken Griffey Jr. striking out in a Sox uniform is like that great grandma hearing “Remember Me” at the end of Coco
  •  With a lineup consisting of Dye Thome Konerko Griffey Jr. Perzynski and Uribe this Sox squad tops the “least likely to ever suicide squeeze” of any in history
  •  Since they just showed the graphic for it, never forget how stoked everyone was that the White Sox and Cubs were both in the playoffs this year and they won one game between the two teams.
  •   The completely dark old A.L. & N.L. scoreboard marks my first goosebumps on the night
  • Ken Griffey Jr., as D.J. points out, ironically flat footed when Cuddyer tags at 3rd. Gets him to end the inning at home. Even in hindsight, that Griffey out is enormous: no call on a pitch leading to a double leading to a minor miscue that got the guy to 3rd. This was such a first score wins game.
  • Might be because I haven’t seen a baseball game in seven months but we’re into the 6th and by my count John Danks has thrown three fastballs.
  • “Let’s pause ten seconds for a station identification for nothing other than some old nostalgia. Bet you can’t even name the radio station we’re on now, can you?”
  • Still in the sixth and John Danks has walked the leadoff batter for the tenth time tonight
  • And to say something nice about JD, that strike out to end the sixth was huge. Even the pitch that would’ve otherwise been a hit and run was huge- would’ve meant at best 1st and 3rd with Mauer coming up.
  •  Speaking of, the A.L. batting title leader bunting to start an inning?! The most baffling Mauer play I’ve ever seen. A ten pitch at bat would’ve absolutely torched us, HAS torched us, what in the world is he doing?
  •  “Thome hasn’t seen any hittable pitches”, right before the longest home run in human history
  • The shot of Pierzynski amping the crowd up from the dugout makes me realize that him and early 2010s Billie Joe Armstrong were basically interchangeable
  •  A pitcher coming out for the 8th inning and you’re still swinging at the first pitch?! Holy cow did the Twins deserve to lose this one
  •  This starting pitching performance was so good the 2010’s White Sox were already looking for ways to waste it away in the later innings
  •  That Jenks curveball was something else man
